Ok, I'm new here and need a little help. I'm running Comcast cable internet. When I connect directly to the cable modem I average 6-10 mbps, or more. When I connect my Netgear WPN824-with latest firmware, it slows down the wired connection to about 2-3 mbps. Do I need to purchase a new router?

And yes the wireless is also the same slow speed. Thanks in advance for the help.

It all depends on how the router/gateway is set up. And since you didn't mention it in your post, you most likely wont receive help!

NetGear is not that great for routing/gateway needs!

The WPN824 is capable of over 40 megs of throughput, so it should not be your bottleneck. It should even allow you to benefit from Comcasts Powerboost and burst to almost 30 megs for download speeds.

Is the MTU set correctly on the Netgear..to 1500? What modem do you have it behind?
