I have office 2003 with XP sp2,it's been getting worse, why does a word doc open so painfully slow ?

is there settings to turn off? that I don't need? or what can I do ?

Dan if it's all your docs opening up slow, then I'd first start looking at your virus protection software. Try turning it off for a quick test to see if that's the case.

well, the only anti virus I have on here that I know of is AVG and I disabled that, and this is in word, and it says at the bottom of the doc while it's opening that "virus scan running",what is this scanner? and how do I find it?

what to do ?

Well Dan I don't see anything in there that indicates you have a scanner running. However I'm not an expert on them either.

Have you ever had Norton or McAfee installed? Maybe an uninstall of one of them was incomplete?

Dunno if AVG is still running or not. Make sure in componet services that they are turned off for now. Then try again if you haven't already done so.

After you "Quit" AVG from the system tray you also need to use Task manager to kill all avg*** processes. Closing the tray icon does not shut down all avg components. And I believe the avg MS Office scanner is a part of the avg email component, so kill all avg processes.
