Been a while since I folded because I had trouble paying the electricity bill. Now im in a dorm and its all you can use!

I wanted to setup two clients as background services (I am told the services don't prvent games from running properly like the graphical client did). However, the guides in the faq are dead links and I am not sure how to do it.

Also, is the 2600xt capable of running the graphical client? If so I'll give that a go as well.

It is a lot easier these days since the console executable can set itself up as a service for you instead of having to do it yourself or use a third party app.

Since you want to run 2 services it sounds like you have a dual core box. You just need to download the console version, put copies in 2 different folders, run the executable, follow the prompts (making sure you choose to install it as a service on both).

You can choose advanced options for both clients if you choose (like selecting the advmethods flags) but you must choose advanced for the second installation so you can select a Machine ID of 2.

There is also a beta of a SMP client you can use as well. I would love to use this on my quad core boxes but I run F@H totally unattended on all my boxes so the current nature of the SMP clients makes it too much of a pain to keep up with. Someday though. :)

I don't use the GPU client personally so I don't know the capabilities of the 2600xt. These are the cards I found listed in the faq though:

Which cards are supported?

We now support serveral classes of GPU boards, including X1600, X1800, and X1900 class GPU's from ATI. At the launch, we supported X1900 cards only. X1800 cards do not provide the performance seen in X1900's and so we strongly recommend X1900 class cards (although we now officially support X1800). X1900 and X1800 cards are actually quite different -- they have different processors (R520, R530 vs. the R580 [in the X1900 series]). The R580 makes a huge difference in performance -- its 48 pixel shaders are key, as we use pixel shaders for our computations. Also note that the card should have more than 256MB (i.e. at least 512MB) of RAM, otherwise the GPU client will put a huge load on the client machine (although we do note that the 256MB X1950Pro using PCIe does work reasonably well).

You know... you could reset a few of those computers to MadDoctor. What a wonderful token of good will and love to the world. Why I'm sure such a generous gesture would help you find a warm place in the heart of lottery winners throughout the United States.

I get all warm and fuzzy just thinking about it........

K, got it setup, both cores are going at 100%. As long as my games don't minimize when I start them up I will keep them going til hell freezes over.
