My connection details:
AT&T 3mbps PPPoe DSL connection (new service to me)
Provided AT&T Motorola Modem MSTATEA
USR5461 Wireless MaxG Router (connecting hardwired)
Scenario 1: Directly connecting my computers network cable to the Motorola modem (no router) and using the modem in standard PPPoe mode ... web browsing, file downloading and FTP uploading to remote servers functions great. Good speeds and overall performance.
That said ...
Scenario2: Switch the motorola modem to 'Bridged Mode', configure and connect the US Robotics router and then connect my client computer to the Router ... web browsing works great, file downloads work great ... BUT FTP UPLOADS NO LONGER WORK! So baffling. The transfer will start, make it through about 1k of data and then time out/freeze. What's more ... file uploads of less than 1k (400bytes, 270bytes, etc.) complete without a hitch.
This is about the strangest problem I've ever run into and I absolutely must iron it out since I maintain a remote domain/server on a daily basis and FTP uploads are par for the course.
Some other facts:
1. The problem is replicable on any computer in the house accessing the internet through the router.
2. The domain/server is not the problem as uploads via other locations/ISP's work fine.
3. As mentioned, take the AT&T Motorola modem out of bridged mode and run my single computer's network cable direct to the modem and everything, including FTP uploads works fine.
4. The US Robotics router has been used previously with our former DSL provider (NON PPPoe connection) and modem for well over a year.
...
I'm thinking it must be some sort of communication error between the USR Router and the Motorola modem ... since the only thing that changes in the non-working uploads scenario is switching the modem to bridged mode and integration of the USR Router.
AT&T's tech support was useless. They were saying ... what kind of computer are you using, we think you should contact your computer vendor if uploads are not working. ::mad:
Anybody have any tips for troubleshooting this mess?
Thanks in advance...
