I have a gateway laptop running windows XP SP2. Few weeks ago I was on roaming the internet and I lost connectivity to the internet. I have a linksys wireless router and wireless card in my laptop. I tried many things to get connectivity back including resetting the modem, router, changing wireless cards with other working laptops, hard wiring the laptop into the router, hard wiring the laptop into the modem directly, no luck. What did work was when I power cycled the laptop, i would get internet connectivity for about 5 minutes then I would lose it again. This happened no matter how I was connected either wirelessly or hard wired.
When i lose connection to the internet I can still ping website like yahoo etc and I can ping anything on my internal network, router, other computers. I can use remote desktop to log all 3 computers on my network and this works fine. This is how I have been usng this laptop lately, remoting into another computer and using that computer to get on the internet.
So what could be going on here. I thought maybe something was overheating since the internet did not die until 5 minutes after I was powered up so I tried to open the laptop, made sure all fans were working, and they were, and put another bog fan blowing right onto the laptop trying to remove any hot air that was floating around but had no luck getting anything to work.
ANyone have any idea what could be going on here? Im very confused by this one.
thanks
Tom
