View Full Version : Internet disconnected when downloading

Every time I am downloading something off of mIRC at speeds greater than 200kb/s+, my internet disconnects (and I have to restart my computer for it to work again) -- this happens when I am connected directly to the modem or when I am connected to the router. But the thing is, when I connect via wireless and download off of mIRC, I do not get disconnected (though I only go about 200kb/s). 200kb/s is a lot, but I have reached speeds of 700kb/s when connected through the modem before I get disconnected -- so I would like to experience the speeds I am paying for. Also, when I download off of BitTorrent or through a website and go 200kb/s+, I do not get disconnected.

I came here with this problem a couple of months ago, but every thing I did (changed settings in TCP optimizer, moved modem away from router and other electrical devices) the problem was still there. (http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=216671)

When I went home (I am at school and in an apartment), I connected my laptop to the router there and tried to download something off of mIRC, but I still got disconnected. But, when I used the PC, which was connected to the router as well, it did not. So it's a computer specific problem...

I was on another forum, when I read about some guy having the same problem as me, but with BitTorrent and someone helped him and I am just wondering if what he was told to do, can be applied to me -- http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/807138.html

Thanks.

Just in case:

Rogers Express: 7.0 Mbps download and 512 Kbps upload.
Windows XP Home SP2
D-Link DI-264 router

I just downloaded something at 640kb/s for 10 minutes and I did not get disconnected...finally!

Hopefully this sticks and I don't get disconnected again. I find it funny that last time you helped me with this, I did more work...but this time just the optimizer did the trick (with a slight change: TCP Receive Window - 256960), but I ain't complaining.

Thanks, trogers.
