I'm looking to get a gaming system either the xbox 360, PS3 or Wii. I think the novelty of the wii would wear off quickly so I think i'm ruling that out. I want to sit when I play games I don't want to be a part of the game *lol*
So basically between the 360 or PS3?
Thoughts, comments, ideas welcome :D

The wii I would get as a zelda/metroid fan, but its on its own thing.
Personally from what I've seen for games I'd go for the Xbox over the PS3.

Hmm yea a lot of people at work are saying the Wii as well. May have to reconsider my thoughts.
Find the system that has the most games you want to play (both presently and in the future), and go with it.
That's really all there is to it. Depending on your particular gaming tastes, any of the three systems could be the one that's best suited for you.

Is the Wii Always totally interactive? I can't just sit on the couch and veg and play a game?

The Wii is mostly interactive. There are some games where you can sit on your couch, but still have to make the arm movements. It's a system made to get people off the couch.

I got sick of the wii pretty fast. Not to mention it has a horrible game selection. When I play video games I don't feel like swinging my arms around and that is required on the wii.
Xbox 360 is great and probably has the best game selection. However, you will get jams and disc read errors due to the hardware.
PS3 failed and the game selection is pretty lousy. On top of that its 150 more than the xbox 360 premium and 250 more than the wii.
If you want something to sit down with and play solo or with some friends over the net I'd get a 360. If you want something thats fun to play with others in the room the wii is the way to go.

360 and never look back, hardware problems are there but so is the good warranty from MS.
Great game selection, almost perfect controller (danged d pad sucks still...fix it already!!!) and its cheaper than the ps3
And if it matters to you, LIVE IS THE only way to play online for me anymore.
WIN WIN!
Have to agree. Have payed all three systems and the 360 is still my favorite for comfort, games, and support.
I think 360 should be your choice.
I never had read disc errors/freezing or something similar, if I got error it was the red ring of death and thats it.
XBL is fantastic, I cant imagine 360 without it.
The wireless controller is comfy, games are awesome, I wouldnt trade it for anything else.

Thanks for the input I think I'm sold on the 360. Probably opting for the premium 2nd level, not the basic and not the elite?

The only real advantage of the Elite over the new Pro models is the extra 100 gigs of HDD space, which is much cheaper to get then instead of buying one of Microsoft's overpriced HDDs.
Do you plan on filling the drive with a ton of junk, or just use it to play games and house the occasional download?

Just play games and house the occasional download, wouldn't even consider xbox live till I learn how to play well. Course my sons may have other thoughts on that.
With any of them I would need to buy a second controller correct?
Correct, they all come with just one controller unless you buy one of those bundles that some retailers put together at times.
You can mix and match wired and wireless controllers, and both the Pro and Elites come with one wireless controller each.
The 20 gig drive is partitioned off so you'll have around 13 gigs of space for game saves, downloads, music, trailers, demos, etc. High def trailers and game demos take up a bit of space, but most people just end up deleting them when they're done viewing or playing them.
Some expansion packs and map downloads require up to a gig or so (the Shivering Isles expansion for Oblivion is just over a gig), but most top off at a couple dozen megs, tops. Most games barely require a meg or two for saving the game, so those won't take up much space at all.
Personal addendum: Although it depends on the current release schedule and such, overall my 360 gets far more use than the other two (combined).
Each has a bunch of hot titles coming out between now and the end of the year, but the majority of the ones that I'm interested in are either only on 360 (such as Halo 3, Mass Effect, Ace Combat, etc.) or are multi-platform (such as COD4, Assassin's Creed, Rock Band, etc.). Most of the 360 and PS3 multiplatform titles so far have either been the same basic experience on both consoles, or the 360 has had the edge in one feature or another (such as multiplayer or graphical performance). There are very few exceptions to this rule.
As I've said here many times before, there isn't a "wrong" choice, but it's hard to argue against the 360 being the best, pound for pound, of the current consoles.

Also alot of games are being programmed for the 360 because its way easier to program for, then ported over to ps3. Madden was like this i believe and because of it the ps3 version suffered really crappy frame rates. Just because the ps3 is more powerful doesn't mean the games will be better. Granted once the console specific games start pouring out it will be good. But who knows how long that will be...

i would say the xbox 360. i have played all 3 systems, and have a 360 of my own, and i am happy with it. it has a very large selection of games, and the online is awesome. also, the 360 controller is very comfortable, and the ps3 controller is is really small, and there is like 6 wii controllers XD
