I am in a spot of bother, please help.
On Friday the school I work at as a IT tech had the internet go down .
We conect to the internet through a proxy server which I can't ping.
We have a divided network that is completely seperate (no wires conecting at all) except that we share the same proxy server.
I can connect to the internet through the other side, no problem.
Helpdesk told me "You have a network spanning issue, we can see your admin server and your curriculum server."
"What does that mean" I asked them.
"It means you have a network cable plugged into two ports at once, ie its looped"They told me.
"You have to go around to every network point and check where the cables are running, once you disconnect the offending cable it will clear the error and work".
This morning I went around to every point and checked every cable run.
Nothing.
However, I did have a workstation that logged on really slowly when I relocated it yesterday at around the right time the internet went down.
I have disconnected it and turned off the miniswitch it was on.
I still can't get the internet.

Normally I'd think "reboot the router".
But I've never done that before and don't want to make the situation worse.
If I have to reboot the router will I have to re enter any information as I'm not sure how to access that.
As I've said, please help (good advice please)
