View Full Version : Computer Freezes Since Going Wireless!!

Since I set up a wireless network a week or two ago, my PC has started freezing up completely.

This only happens when using IE (6.0) and can happen at any time. It can happen 5 minutes after using the internet, or 5 hours later.

But, once it happens, I have to force the computer all the way down with the main power button. Ctrl+Alt+Del won't do a damn thing, nor will anything else. The cursor won't even move.

It's a 6 month old HP Pavilion, a1644x, XP Pro, V. 2002, SP 2, all updates (if Windows Live OneCare is actually doing its job, that's another mess in itself).

I would probably blame WLOC, but that software was installed months ago, and this just started happening after going wireless. Seems too coincidental.

I tried running sfc / scannow, but the window just flashes and disappears. Which is the current behavior of WLOC as well.

Also downloaded and ran Adaware, which found a lot of "undesirable" cookies and deleted them, but nothing major.

Anyone ever heard of this problem?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if this will help you at all.... but may be worth trying.

I recently went wireless on my new pc with a netgear wireless pci card. I started getting the blue screen of death due to some IRQ errors. I started fudging around with windows' settings and then my computer would just freeze. I uninstalled the wireless card, put in a D-Link and haven't had the problem since.

It was something about the card. I've since put a D-Link card in my computer and everything is running great.

Do you have access to another wireless network device? Remove the old one and try a new card.

No one could offer me a fix as to why my Netgear was tossing out IRQ errors... but I know it fixed the problem when I got rid of the card.
