limiting iPaq wireless networks

Don't know much about this stuff so I'm not sure how to ask.

We have an iPaq at work with a UPC scanner, hooked wireless to our inventory system. Scan an item and it'll give the price, stock level, etc...

Recently the iPaq has started picking up other local wireless connections, saying "New network detected" at which point OUR connection craps out.

Any way to tell it to ignore other wireless signals, or to give ours priority?

Not sure what model it is (any way to tell?) but it's running Pocket PC 2003.
