Hello, I can't figure out what happened to my perfect internet connection. I have had broadband from Comcast, AT&T, Media One, etc forever and always its been perfect except for the price. Thats for another time
Anyway my daughter came home for summer from college with her Laptop. My desktop and her laptop are both running XP . My desktop (1 year old) has the wireless router on my desk and the new laptop (9 months old) has the wireless hardware in it. All we are doing is sharing an internet connection. Time to time for past month a few problems with laptop but able to get bugs worked out. Now everyday I'm constantly rebooting my desktop to get online. I'll click the Firefox browser in my "Quick Launch" and the browser window just times out and will not load my "Home Page". I know it could possibly be thousands of things but FUSTRATED as can be needs help please! It always works fine after the reboot. I leave the PC on all day so from time to time I try and go online and thats when I must reboot. Sorry if kinda wordy.
Thanks,,Paul

First suspect would be that your daughter's laptop brought some spyware/malware or trojan into the LAN.

Search Google, download, update and scan both comps with:

SpyBot
Lavasoft Ad-Aware
a-Squared Free

And also do a detail scan with your updated antivirus.

good suggestion.. also make sure you do these scans in safe mode... hit F8 right before Windows starts loading to get there as some trojans, spyware etc will often not allowed it to be cleaned unless you do that scan in safemode when the junk isn't trying to run.

Thanks trogers & sava700, Her laptop is really clean.Yes we do keep it up to date with AV, Lavasoft, Spybot, etc. I never tried doing it in safe mode though, I will now. Thanks, I'm going to try and checkout the configuration of the Wireless Router in my browser window. Can't hurt?

naw couldn't hurt to check it.. but I'm curious, is the laptop having this problem too long with your desktop.
