hi there everyone! got a problem hoping someone might be able to help me out with. I have been doing some networking for a friend and I have run into a problem. I have 2 computers running off of a Dlink hub so that they can share files and printers. Both are running XP SP2 and both are sony systems although one is a laptop. 2 weeks ago I hooked them both up to the hub and got them both so they were sharing files through the network no problem and printing from either machine to 1 printer. All went well for just over a week, worked one night, they went home, came in the next morning and nothing was working any more. No updates had installed, they had not changed anything, the networks simply do not see each other anymore, the laptop is saying that MSHOME is not acccessible and that we might not have persmission, and the desktop will not even try to open up MSHOME, it simply does the windows dinging sound when I click on show networks and does nothing. I also can not access the windows firewall on the desktop, it says the ICS service is not running, when I try to enable it , it fails. I have checked for viruses, scanned for and removed any spyware and tried everything I could find online or think of myself all to no avail. I am beating my head against a wall because there is nothing out of the ordinary that is out of place or not working. I checked and enabled all the services for ICS, still got nothing with the firewall....any ideas would be appretiated!! thank you.

Simple solution is to replace that hub with a router. It will make your life a lot easier.

Well in that case the answer is to speak to the IT department and have them correct it. If he needs two computers to be able to share a connection it should be up to them to support it based on a business need. Otherwise you are likely violating an IT policy, and they might have found what you did and blocked it.
