Well, what I want to do is share my printer with my roommate. He's running win98se and I'm on win2k... I'm on a lan and only want him to have access... How would I set this up? Hope someone has an answer http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif

I will probably leave something out but here it goes:
1) Make sure that your workgroup names are the same.
2) You have to go into Users and create a new user and give the new user restricted access.
3) Go to the control panel (printers) and right click your printer. Click "SHARING". Click on "share as" and name the printer.
With the user established you can now go to ANY folder in explorer and do the "sharing" thing and grant access to only that folder for him....blah blah blah.
Hope this helps and someone jump in if I forgot anything.

if you wanna, you can put a password on it too. this will reassure you that only he can print on your printer. same goes for folders

for some reason when he tries to print he gets a message that says, "user intervention required" I'm trying to get his to remotely print from his computer.

think that's really the only way to go? I mean it's just a printer problem...
Do not format. Make sure printer isn't set to work offline. Try to just reinstall the printer. Then log into the Win98 computer as the administrator of your 2000 machine and see if you can print with your login.

This might be a stupid question, but do you have "file and print sharing" enabled on the Win2K machine? Under your "Local Area Connection Properties".
