MTU change

whatever I try, the MTU stays at 1480 saying it is fixed for PPPoE for XP. If I change it in TCP Optimizer it stays again at the same. I would like to try 1492 or 1500. Is it possible to change or it is fixed.

What modem do you own some have mtu settings in there?

I have ASUS 802.11b wirelles card using Access Point of my ISP which is 500m from my home. Connection is 1024/256 and after I setup parameters with TCP Optimizer according Trogers advices. Regarding MTU I wanted to experiment by myself, but if you suggest to not touch it, I will quit it immediatelly.
