Hey,

A couple of days ago I started to get really bad latency with Ventrilo and a game called Archlord. My ping goes crazy when I run these programs especially on Ventrilo, but it's just these 2 programs nothing else is getting effected. I can play any other game and browse and download at full speed. The problem gets very bad between 6pm 11pm gmt for some reason. I've contacted my ISP which is freedom2surf.com to make sure they haven't blocked any ports (which they advertise on there site that they don't) and they said nothing has been changed.

I've opened all my inbound ports in my router (netgear DG834G) and have reinstalled the programs and formatted my HDD but the problem still occurs. I have had this problem before but it was awhile ago and from what I remember it just went away on it's own. But this doesn't seem to be going away. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I quote: " Web-based speet tests are just an estimate of the slowest link between you and the test server.
Tests are dependent on many factors, such as time of day, congestion on the path at the time, your ISP's backbone/connectivity, your allocated bandwidth, the particular node you're on, the state of the Internet at the time, latency, moon phase ;), etc."

Lol. Moon phase! Blame Moon Phase!

I play Deus Ex, an ancient game online, and I use the same router as you. My ISP is TalkTalk, and my d/l is approx 3.6Mbps, and my upload is approx 45.6KB/s.
I can't feasibly host with this upload speed (grr), but with this combination I find that I can get fairly reliably good pings on most online games.

That doesn't really help lol but it's worth a thought.

Also I advise against opening your ports. Just open the ones the game needs.

Odds are ventrillo is talking up all your upload bandwidth. Ping the server you're trying to play on see what the lag is like.

What is your upload cap?
