Here is a strange one. Today my W2K machine changed it`s own IP address !
I sent an email at 4:08pm, everything running fine, the machine had been on all day. About an hour later went back to surf a little and couldn`t connect to the net (connected to gateway with ICS and W/ME).
After several minutes and a couple of reboots I discovered the IP address assigned to the NIC had changed completely to some off the wall number. So I put my settings back in and it started working after that.
I don`t have a clue what happened. Nobody was around it, only program running was Outlook Express.
Any ideas??????

Do you have DHCP enabled? If so, it may have not been able to find the server, then it will automatically assign a private IP. Probably 169.254.0.0 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 Next time open the command prompt and type in ipconfig/all. This will show you all your network info. You will probably be missing the DNS and Gateway entries.

Hey Roundeye, thats the same crap that just happened to me and I had to Format. I was on da fone for hours with a tech and they had no freakin clue, and trust me, we had tried everything. I even re-installed Win2k to see if that would fix it, but to no avail. I had an appointment for them to come try and fix it, but it was no for another week. I couldn't wait, so I formatted and all is well. But it was stranfe because one second I was browsin the web fina, and then the next second, my IP and all server info changed, it was really weird. I thought that it was only me, but now I see that this has happened before. Whats the fix for this?

I'm not sure how to disable it, but maybe you can try to enter all you network info manually. Did you try to specify an IP or did you let Win2k search for it?
