View Full Version : defraging in WinME !!1
Is a NIGHTMARE!! it goes and then it keeps starting over every 2 minutes! I have EVERYTHING off including the screen saver and power saver things.. I have nothing running except the explorer and defrag (alt + ctrl + del.. closed everything) internet is off...I can't think of anything else! Any one had this problem? Or any solutions?
I'd appriciate it a lot! Thanks!

It sounds like you need to do SCANDISK! You may have errors on your HDD that will cause defragg to go haywire and not complete. I think you have to have SYSTRAY and EXPLORER up too, not just EXPLORER. GL

I had the same problem until I disabled the "system restore".
I disabled it to save system resources. Then I noticed my defrag problem stopped !

Try to defrag in safe mode.

TWAVE try this, go to winmag.com, look for hot fixes. There's one for scandisk and defrag. d/l scandisk then reboot, it starts before anything else does. When thats all done,d/l defrag, reboot and it does tha same thing. .....tom
TWave, make sure you don't have anything running in the background or in the system tray.

I got this in my email yesterday from: http://betatester.tin.it
It's worth a shot!

I agree with with Zporttech - reboot in safe mode and run the Maintenance program. If your HD is quite old run scandisk in thorough mode.
Thanks for the tips.. the winmag.com files did the trick.. Both the HDs are new, and I had EVERYTHING disabled except for systray, explorer, and defrag,I had the system health stuff disabled too.. well.. now I know what to do.. Thanks again..
