Anyone running that? I've just been running multiple instances of the regular console version.

i had a much better result running it in VMware/linux,

it will definatly make your points per week go up for sure.

I run it. It can be tricky at times to get it running.

Guess I'll give it a shot when these units get done. Sounds like it could increase the points a good bit.

Uh ya, look at my points now, I'm way up.

Follow the readme instructions well after the install, every time you reboot rerun install.bat

DO NOT RUN IT AS A SERVICE.

I don't run F@H as a service now anyhow. At least not on my main box.

Worth looking into I see.....:)

Ok I couldn't wait. :) It seems to have installed ok. If all goes well here, I'll see about adding to my dual Xeon box and see how it does.

Seems slow. Better have some nice points at the end of this...

Also doesn't seem to get the CPU as hot either. Oh well.. Hope this works.

You get like 1400-1700 poitns for each WU.

Hmm. I guess I'll see what the payoff is.

I've noticed that it says it's running at a low priority, but it doesn't like to yield CPU much. I know C&C3 loaded noticably slower with it running. Then again, it is a beta.

YARDofSTUF

it should be running 4fahcore1a priocesses and using 100% of the CPU when nothing else is using it.

Shouldnt be slowing C&C3 down, unless its eating up memory that C&C3 wants.

Well collectively it's using only 340MB. If I sort the tasks by CPU, rarely do I see any of the fahcore processes yield to another.

I'll keep messing around with it.

Didn't seem to do much after this first unit completed. In fact I think I fell behind some on my stats.....

What CPU?

YARDofSTUF

See the result, 1100 points, they seem to update in the stats page on EOC slower.

E6300 stock clock on this box.

Nice! Indeed that was the case. I was a little worried I didn't get the credit for the unit. Good thing I left the SMP running.:thumb:

E6300, definitely worth using the SMP core on.

Another unit down (sometime late morning). :)

The SMP client doesn't seem to like my Dual Xeon box. With HT turned on, I barely made it to 6% in 12 hours. I'm going to give it a go without HT.

YARDofSTUF
04-13-07, 06:24 PM
Yeah HT may be slowing it down because it splits teh work up evenly to each core and if the 2 real cores finish a step early they have to wait for the virtual ones to catch up.

Addict

Well turning off HT did help. It's at least progressing now. I think I may go back to the regular FAH on that box though. The projects that teh SMP clients get seem to be tough. I read that they tend to be more cache intense (2610). Given there's only 512k on each processor.

We'll see how it looks tomorrow.

are there suppose to be 4 fahcore_a1.exe processes running?
they add up to 100% but just looks funny.

I'm using an e6300 @ 3.16 ghz right now.

YARDofSTUF

Yup, it will always open 4 cores.

and manually running the install.bat each time sux and does not automatically start the client.

What step am i missing?

I should add more to the above by stating that in Vista you can not drag an item into the startup folder, and google is failing me on this problem for now.

Well its not a smooth process yet. its BETA, REALLY BETA lol

For me, right now, I have to shut it down after each WU is sent because it hangs on "Working..." if I dont and then restart fah.exe.

If I reboot I have to run install.bat, then run fah.exe.

That covers 90% of the time. Other times when a WU starts and sits on "Entering M.D." but doesnt do anything(a good hint is that only 3 cores will do anything, sometimes teh line will be repeated twice) then I delete the work folder and queue file and restart fah.exe until it fixes. Sometimes it will sit on "Entering M.D." and then repeat it and give an error, but then go on to start the WU.

So if its working, you didnt miss a step :p

that's to the 'start menu,' not the 'Startup' folder.

Oh... You want it to start on boot? Dont do that, you need to run install.bat first anyway :p

Just manually run it for now. At some point they will fix the bugs that are there. Or go back to the other clients. Which I'd suggest anyhow so that I don't have to worry about you passing me up.
