Is BPL really practical and is it possible for dsl/cable to some day be replaced by it?

No! Its much more likely cable and dsl will continue to grow and other wireless technologies will replace BPL.
Is it practical? Not if you consider the interference that is being caused to radio systems near it. Does it work? Obviously.
