View Full Version : shutdown jacked
when i goto start menu, shutdown windows, and then select the shutdown option, instead of shutting down my computer it reboots.
any ideas? thanks in advance.
My crystal ball is broken so I will assume that you are running win 98?
Click start then run and then type msconfig in the box. When the program is running go half way down and put a check in selective startup. remove the check marks from proccess autoexec.bat, config.sys and load startup group items. From there click the win.ini tab then click the plus sign next to windows. Remove the check marks from run= and load=. then click on the startup tab and click the following, scan registry, system tray, loadpower profile(2 lines, make sure you get them both), your antivirus software, and any keyboard and mouse that has special settings. Click ok and restart the system. It will act up on this restart and should be fixed on all the following restarts afterwards. If by chance your running windows ME, put a check mark in statemgr and pchealth.

If Sid's suggestion doesn't work, go to page 2 of this "software" forum. About 3/4 ways down there is a post from SCOOT with the same problem and a fix.
thanks, i used the rememdy in scoots thread and it straightened things out.
