Hi
I'm new to this forum and not a computer wiz so please have me excused for both lack of knowledge and the length of this topic.

My problem is this:

I'm connected to an adsl line at college, and since the very first day i started here i have had problems with my internet connection. My internet suddenly cuts out regardless of what I'm doing, either if I'm idle or downloading. At the same time my cpu usage goes up from 0-1% to 40-45% and the only way to get it back to normal is either to disable, then enable, my network card or simply reboot. Unplugging the cable does not do the trick. At first i thought some program or spyware/virus was causing it but when i checked the processes everything was at it should be except for the cpu usage. My net works from 5sec to a couple hours. After midnight it gets much better and i don't have a clue why that is. I was thinking maby it was because of the network traffic at school. But i think it still is too unstable for that to be the cause. At home it works perfectly. I went to the computer administrators but they didn't know what it was so i have totally given up on trying to fix it myself after almost obliterating my settings beyond my knowledge of repair.

Anyway here's my stash if it helps anyone in understanding:

Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe WiFi Edition
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4,2gh+
2gb ram

I hope someone maby knows what's going on 'cause I'm totally out in the field here. And again, sorry for the length

I would suspect someone in college planted a trojan into your comp which only links to the hacker in the college's network.

Hm, that's seems unlikely since this started the moment i hooked up my computer here. Besides, I've formatted my pc one time after that already. But if so, how am i to remove it? I scan for spyway and viruses frequently and haven't found anything.

I'm assuming your network card is on board that coudl be what is using the most resources. I would suggest updating the network card drivers ,and also chipset drivers for that computer. Look in the manual what chipset you have should tell you.Ask the admins if they could give you a static ip for that computer should help with the drops. It always sounds like the college network is just booked since it works alot better at night though.

Make sure you have less things on start up you could do disable somethings by going to start menu run then type msconfig

I have the newest drivers installed. I also was thinking that the traffic was causing it, like right now i've been on for several hours and it's 05:24am here. As i said, when I'm at home it works like a charm but our connection there is far lower so maby it's to much "data" flowing in. I don't know, hehe;) Anyway, thanks for your responses and suggestions.
