IP Change

I need to change my ip address. when i connect directly thru my cable modem, the ip changes many times, but when i connect it back to my router, the ip stays the same. i restarted my router, computer, modem and still didnt change. i did the ipconfig/release/renew thing and still didnt work. I turned everything off for 8 hours and still didnt change. i have Dlink DI-634M router. help???

When you connect to the modem directly it is basing your IP off the MAC addy of your NIC, when you connect through the router it is basing the IP off of the MAC on the router.

In your router settings, if you have it, tell it to clone the MAC, so it uses your NIC's mac, then refresh through the router's admin page and it should use the same IP as without the router.
