hi i sent this message to bt and had a reply its just that i dont trust bt cause basically theyre terrible at computers.

im not really asking for help i just want to see if anyone thinks what bt said... if that makes sense.. ok lets try:

"I am having problems with my internet connection. When my computer is first turned on it takes about 15 minutes to establish a connection to the internet. Windows will detect many other wireless signals in the area before finding my own, only 5 metres away. I must press 'refresh network list' close to 50 times before I see the BT HOMEHUB signal, and even then I’m lucky if it connects. Even after being connected for a few hours, a system restart will again take a long time to connect.

When connected the signal is intermittent and I experience slow downloads and poor performance in online gaming and general internet browsing.

There are no problems with my computer as it is new, everything is up to date and disk cleaning maintenance is in operation daily. I have also reset and power cycled the router and this does not fix the problem."

If your problem is wireless, maybe the tips in the Wireless section of our forum can help: http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=203247

thanks but im using a bt homehub so im really limited as to what i can change about it. if i change anything in the advanced settings it just crys its eyes out and i have to reset it, resetting the things i have changed..

basically bt said it was an internal wiring problem and that i have to use the test socket for 3 days.. this sound right?

If it is a problem in the physical wiring, I do not see how using it for 3 days or 300 days will solve the problem? But if I am to be ultra sharp, I would take BT's meaning to be - "when we have collected enough payments from you, we can afford to pay someone to correct that wiring...". Now, does that sound right?...:D

well they said try and keep connected for 3 days and see if the problem persists. they also said if it needs to be done, WE need to get and electrician to do it!

do you think it is actually possible for it to be a wiring problem or are they just making excuses for their terrible service again?

From the tracert of the other member, ping times are abnormal in hop 1 while hop 2 and further, ping times are normal. Seems the problem is in quality of the wireless signal between BT's hub and the user's wireless card. An electrician will not be able to solve the problem, rather, a hardware programmer is required.
