View Full Version : No internet through Linksys router?

I have a Linksys router (BEFSR41) and a Linksys cable modem (BEFCMU10)
When the network cable is plugged from the cable modem directly to my PC, I get a perfect internet connection- but when the router is added in I lose internet connectivity despite all the lights on the two devices acting like there's a good connection.
When I run the install disks for the router, it asks for a password. Stating that the default for it's settings is "admin" I put that in, but it enters an infinite loop of requesting and accepting the password and then loading over and over, and when you close it it complains it wasn't done.
Anyone have any advice? And don't tell me to drop the router, I have other devices awaiting if I can ever get the damn thing to work.

Is the router new? Are you sure it is working properly?
First, get rid of the setup disks, they are usesless. Then reset the router by holding the reset button down for about 15 seconds. Now unplug the power to the router & modem and shut your computer off. First plug the ethernet cables in properly, the first go from the WAN port on the router to the modem, then from one of the other ports to the compuer. Now plug the power back into the router and wait about 30 seconds, then plug the power back into the modem and wait about 30 seconds, then turn your pc back on. Once your pc boots up see if you can connect to the internet, if you can or even cannot you need to log into your router. To do this open Internet Explorer and type 192.168.1.1 in your address bar and hit enter. You will be prompted for a username and password, by default there is no username and your password is admin. Now you can set any custom settings that you like.

Dont remember the model of linksys router I had two years ago, but I was using comcast as my provider, my worked well for several months, but than one day I went to0 log on and could not, the reason and comcast did not tell me this, they could not get around the firewall/router/from cisco. tects worked with me for days until I said fuc k it, couple months leater I found out at theforums.ws, witch unfortiontly not there anymore, that led to a cliping about the same model router I had been using, as they had disquilfed form there list of routers. Now when you go to comcast they want you to use there motorola sefrboard modems, witch they can access anytime they like. It sucks hopefully that is not your problem but felt I should bring it up....

Ok, so I got in and got the thing set to clone my MAC address, and that seemed to solve the problem for the PC, but it created a new one also.
(The PC is now working fine, through the router)
However, now the Xbox360, in port 2, does not even light up the front of the router's "port 2" LED. When tested on the Xbox, it claims it has no ethernet connection.
Any clue why the router wouldn't recognize an xbox now?

When you cloned your mac address. Did you turn your pc off, unplug your modem and unplug your router? This is a very strange issue. I have the same router v4.0 and havent run into this with the same settings you have. Also make sure you have the newest firmware for your router.
