Hello all!
I recently purchased a NAS with ethernet and USB 2.0 capabilities, but am having major slowdowns accessing it. My home network currently consists of Verizon FiOs internet service and a D-Link DI-624 wireless g router, with the following attached devices:
PC1) Dell Dimension E510 desktop with ethernet card (not sure if it's gigabit)
PC2) Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop with wireless g card (I believe...)
PC3) HP Pavilion ze4365us with wireless b card
NAS) NexStar LX NAS with ethernet and USB 2.0 (currently connected to PC1 via USB 2.0)
Console1) Xbox360 with ethernet onboard
Console2) Nintendo Wii with wireless g (I think)
DVR1) TiVo Series 2 DVR with USB wireless g adapter
DVR2) TiVo Series 2 DVR with USB wireless g adapter
Here's what I'm trying to achieve:
Currently, my NAS is attached to PC1 and contains all of My Documents (music, photos, vidoes, etc.). I store large, important files on this drive and access them via many different PCs, consoles, and DVRs. However, because the NAS is attached through PC1 via USB 2.0, it can often be slow to access from anything other than PC1.
What do I need to do to improve connection speed/access to this NAS? Would buying a g router with a USB 2.0 port improve speed/access?
Networking confuses me a bit, but I'm not a complete moron about it so please reply accordingly. :rotfl: Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
-Aaron
