I got my new computer about 4 months ago and it's been good to me so far. I spent a good bit on it so that I would be able to play games and use multiple programs without problems. I usually play Warcraft 3 and Counter Strike Source. Recently though, I noticed my ping gets out of control for no reason.
I come home from school and play for usually 15 to 20 minutes, then I get a sudden spike of lag. However, the lag doesn't go away and it usually stays for at least 20 minutes which pretty much ruins the game that I have going on. It seem that almost every game I play now becomes worthless because I get just randomly get pings of anywhere from 300 ms to 900 ms.
I have a DSL connection which comes through my router. Every time I contact my ISP they jus tell me that everything should be fine and to check my phone filters, etc. I ran Adaware, Spybot and PC-cillin and deleted everything I possibly could. However, there are 2 viruses that PC-cillin says "Deny Access" to as the action instead of Quarenteen. When I run the PC-cillin check for viruses it says that nothing was found, yet when I check the virus logs these viruses show up multiple times for the day that I ran the scan.
My main question is what might be causing such outrageous lag on a daily basis that is ruining my gaming? But also, how might I go about deleting these viruses that PC-cillin can't delete? Since a friend of mine had a virus that made his internet connection horrible, I was wondering if that might be the case with me. I'm completely confused and I'm sorry for all my jumbled thoughts here. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you need anything clarified just let me know. Thank you very much.
