The computer I'm having problems with is running Windows XP SP1. I purchased DSL service about 6 months ago and was unable to connect to the DSL modem thru my on board LAN. I went over settings for hours with a technition over the phone and we couldn't find anything wrong. So I bought a new NIC card and installed it. Still nothing. I tried using the modem on another computer and it works fine. Later my computer dies and I end up purchasing a new motherboard and CPU for it. When I got the repaired install of windows completed I tried using the DSL service on that computer again and still, it wont connect thru onboard LAN or the NIC card. I've now purchased a network hub so that it could share the internet connection with the other computer. It cannot connect to the network hub either. It seems i cannot connect to anything thru any LAN port on the system. The only thing I can think of is that years ago it was a part of a workgroup. That workgroup name is still listed in the network settings. I've tried deleting the workgroup name but it wont let me save a blank workgroup name. Any suggestions?
