Hello everyone. Thank you in advance for any help that's offered. I've been here for hours trying to set up a wireless network and its' just not working. I'm not very computer-savvy so just bear with me a moment as i explain the situation.

I'm using a Digicom Michelangelo wave 54 wireless router (I'm trying to set this up in italy) which, due to very unclear directions, I'm supposing, as in the US, i connect to the original modem that was given to me when internet was set up (that is, wall jack---modem---(via ethernet cable)---router---computer). The IP address that was given to me by the company Telecom, starts like so 172.24.0.X. The guy that came in and installed it had to set a certain IP addres and subnet mask 255.255.255.252 and internet doesn't work (connected to the original modem) unless it's set up as he originally did. However, in order to access the interface to setup the router, I have to completely change the IP to 192.168.1.2 subnet 255.255.255.0 and the gateway 192.168.1.254, which is also the address which i use to access the setup page for the router. When i'm able to access the setup, i can't access the web.

Now, after trying everything, the only thing i've come close to getting internet to work with my computer connectd to the router, which is in turn connected to the modem, is if the ip address configurations remain 172.24.0.XXX and the rest the same as the guy had set it. However, wireless doesn't work. Neither does internet work on another computer when I connect it via ethernet cable in one of the other ethernet jacks along with the computer already connected. So it's like the router isnt' even there, because just one port functions.

Another problem that it could be due to is that practically, I'm getting the service under a university's name here. It's not directly signed under me, but actually an extension of the university's network. does that make sense?
I don't know but th emore i'm fumbling with it the more i'm getting confused! Can someone please help me out. Any help is greatly appreciated!!! I KNOW i'm doing something SO WRONG! :P THANK YOU!!

I forgot to mention that when I am able to connect to the router's site, it says that there is internet connection, and the wireless signal shows strongly on another computer, but fails to access internet explorer pages. Sorry thanks!

Hi,

Check out "Portforward.com" they have good guides on routers and how to setup everything.

Thanks ellgor. I've already visited the site but i'll try looking again. I just can't seem to find anything related to the ip address of the router being completely different from the one that my Internet provider initially gave me. Should I even be focusing on that issue?

Thanks again

Hi again,

Sorry to see your still having problems, I have one thing to offer, please make a note of your current settings on paper in case you have to go back to them. Just in case, to get your settings, go to "Run" ,type in "cmd", in the black box that appears type in "ipconfig/all", under the Lan section is all the details of the connections.
Important to note, it is the Router that assigns all your gear their respective IP's, set the router to allow/enable DHCP, set your comp to obtain IP auto. Next big step is to Switch off the MODEM for at least 3mins, switch back on and hopefully you will have the net, if this hasn't helped you might need to go see the Admin person who controls the network your on, and explain to them what's happening.

Regards, Ellgor.
