Here is my setup: Up stairs, 2 second floor we have a pos* netgear wireless router, then the basement has a office and a workshop area, Cat 5 runs down to the basement office from the router and goes into a 8-way linksys switch, instead of running cat 5 to two different pc in the workshop area, can I get something to throw a wireless signal from the switch or can i plug a router into the switch... I just want internet on the 2 stranded computers, file sharing doesnt have to be accomplished.

If the signal from the Netgear router doesn't make it..you can get Netgears range extender, try a newer MIMO router that has a stronger signal (replacing your current one), or get an access point and add another wireless LAN.

Can I put the Access Point on the switch, IE run a cat 5 from the switch to the AP???

You sure can. You'll just want to run whatever setup wizard it has...so that its IP address falls within range of the IPs that your primary router hands out.

Example..if you have a router that runs a 192.168.0.XXX network...and you purchase Linksys access point..the Linksys AP will come out of the box as 192.168.1.245...you'll want to change that to 192.168.0.245.
