Hello,

I am new writing here as I was following your forum long time before ;)

I have a question: in the building we have about 140 Internet client, and they are all connected to the same network. How can I (I am the supplier) monitor the bandwidth by each user? It's like the traffic shaping. few years ago, I had an internet connection with limited bandwidth for 20MB/day, if you will over this limit, your internet bandwidth will be limited or even stopped. So it's possible to do!

But I don't know how ... if anybody has an idea? should I change the switches to Managed switches? or to set a linux (or windows) server to do that?

any idea please?

Thank you.

Have you heard anything about Netequalizer? It sounds like it would do the trick. You can monitor bandwidth usage and also prevent network congestion through prioritization. We've been using it on our network and it's worked well. Here's the website: www.netequalizer.com.

IF you want a free soluation you could set up qos which is part of the microsoft windows.

Thank you ralphie and mccoffee.

In fact it's an enterprise, so they can pay for the NetEqualizer (thanks to ralphie) I'll gather the max possible info and I'll propose it in the next meeting.

I was thinking about the QoS, the problem that we have Linux and Windows ... so looking for something general :)

Thank you all.

Have a nice day.

MIMO, I'm in a similar situation as you and am thinking about the Netequalizer. Did it work for you? I also wanted to know if anyone has had experience with netequalizer and VLAN. I read that it was supposed to be compatible, but haven't actually talked to anyone who's used it under these circumstances.

I've actually been using the NetEqualizer with a VLAN for about a month and it has been working great. My company is located in a moderately sized office park in downtown Denver, and during high usage time we used to see a lot of lagging. The netequalizer seems to have cleared all of that up. Hope you find something that works for you.
