Good evening,

Five computers are sharing one broadband connection through a Linksys WRT54G router.

Four are connected to the wire ports. One is using a wireless card.

One computer operates Windows XP Pro, three run XP Home and the last runs 98SE.

The connection speeds of three computers have slowed down considerably. The other two are fine.

Whilst trying to share a printer, a network setup disk was created (in the final step of the XP Pro network setup wizard) and subsequently run on two other computers (98SE and XP Home). These three are the slow ones.

An internet gateway icon appears on the windows 98SE computer, when disabled, all three cannot connect to the internet.

Any advice on how to resolve the current issue would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Yousif Masoud

http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=177 try this on all the computers giving it manual ips would help it find the network. With the printer if it's a network printer print a configuration log off the printer then make an ip port on all the computers for that printer. You add the ip when you add a new printer make it a local just give it an ip port.

Hope that helps if you need better insturctions just ask. :)

Dear Mccoffee,
Thank you for your suggestions. I would like to disconnect these computers from eachother so that they no longer interfere with eachothers' internet connection.

Disabling UPnP on the router increased the speed (substantially) on two of the computers, however, after switching on the third, back to square one.

I can't seem to find instructions on how to 'terminate contact' between the three. Stopping resource sharing hasn't improved internet speed.

I am very grateful for your help.

Kind regards,
