Computer is running Windows ME with Internet Explorer 6. Cable Modem is Motorola SB5120. Router is Linksys WRT54Gv5 with newest update. Ethernet card is Linksys LNE100TX-G1
Here is the problem. Computer hooked straight to cable modem, no problems, runs fine. As soon as the computer and the router are connected ( whether router is connected to cable modem or not) Windows Explorer freezes whenever it is called upon. This includes Internet Explorer address. Must press con-alt-del to unfreeze . I did get Firefox to connect to internet and it seems to run ok. But, if I try to do anything else on the computer, it will stop responding and freeze. Control Alt Delete again. Take the ethernet plug out of computer, it does not freeze. I assume Windows Explorer and the router don't get along, but I wanted to know why and can it be fixed. My last resort is to try a reinstall, but a new install was done only a couple of weeks ago, Any help would be appreciated!!!!

http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=177 give this a try on all the computers. On the computer that freezes try removing tcpip in control panel my network places i belive that's the right place in windows me. Then reboot the computer and re add tcpip. Then do the manual ips.

If that doesn't help I would try doing a repair install on the computer that freezes hope this helps:D

I think I have it narrowed down to Windows Explorer. And because Internet Explorer is intergrated with Windows Explorer, it causes the same freeze of computer. This is why I can use Mozilla/Firefox and surf the net. I am not sure why the router causes Windows Explorer to freeze, but it does. When I use the Command line and do a ping, everything comes back normal. Which means computer goes through router, to internet, and back through router to computer. I've hooked up a bunch of this brand/type of routers and never had this problem( never on a ME machine though), a few even with the same ISP. So I believe it is the computer which needs fixed. I just need to find what's wrong. I will try the suggestion of removing the TCPIP in network properties. Any other suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
