I was "borrowing" a neighbors wireless connection for several weeks while I waited for all my wireless crap to show up and for cable to be activated. I used my laptop and turned on ICS then plugged my xbox 360 into it and it worked fine. Now I have an entire Linksys setup (router and wireless desktop card, plus the interal laptop wireless) and now when I try and enable ICS I get the message:

"An error occured while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled."

"Internet Connection Sharing cannot be enabled. A LAN connection is already configured with the IP address that is required for automatic IP addressing."

I know a little about network stuff but I am totally lost on this.

Ive been messing with it for that last four hours and im juuuuust about ready to pull my hair out. I understand that direct connect to my router is the best way but my setup wont currently allow that. And if its at all possible id like to avoid spending $100 bones on the little white 360 wireless connector unless I absolutely have to.

Anybody please; feel free to enlighten me...

Thanks

try giving your labtop a manual ip of 192.168.1.xx then subnet of 255.255.25.0 then dns should be the servers listed in the router status page.

If i'm thinking this out right it should assign the sbox conneection this way if not i would try to bridge the connections see if it would work bridged.

Ok I did tried that and now I cant get my Laptop online. I cant even log onto the router from it. If I set the ip to 192.168.1.xx it wont go online at all. Did I need to leave it at 192.168.0.xx? And do I have to tell it what the default gateway is? Sorry this is just a little above my head right now....

I don't think you can do ICS when behind a router. You need to have one NIC connecting to the internet and another to the local LAN.

Your best bet would be to change the IP range out of that which ICS needs to use. I forget the ICS IP off the top of my head, but it is either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, both common defaults for home routers.

xx could be any number other then the gateway set the computer to 192.168.1.15 should work just find
subnet is 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1 for linksys
