View Full Version : Linksys Router and DSL
Hi all, I am new to this forum and had a question...
I used to have cable modem hooked up to my Linksys wireless router. I have now switched to DSL (dynamic IP) and my modem is not retieving a signal from the central office. It seems as though there is an issue with the IP address renewing through my Linksys router. How should I set up my router settings so that it can work with my Yahoo DSL?
Hi,
In the routers set-up make sure DHCP is enabled, check that there is an option for timing out ( on mine setting it to 0 disables this feature) and lastly check for an option that renews IP forever and really lastly check that the channels match between the two items, hope this of help.
Regards, Ellgor.

They are usually shipping Speedstream modems which already do router (NAT) and PPPoE for you. Need to check that first...else putting another router behind it can conflict.

The way to check would be to connect comp directly to the Speedstream and do a tracert to see if hop 1 carries a router IP.

Yup that's one of several ways.
