impossible to play game with lag

i have rcn cable modem my internet and downloading speed is perfect (once i was downloading 10 megabytes per second :D). but my latency is horrible to the point i cant even play, it takes a long time logging into wow and when i log on i try to attack a monster then it basically stops attacking and i cant do anything but move around then in about a minute or 2 da monster suddenly dies and i find out my latency is at 9000 happens like 80 percent of the times i really cant play like this. I had this problem before but i restarted xp and would have hoped da problem would be gone but it wasnt.

amd 4800+
nvidia 7800gtx
1 gig ram
asus a8n sli motherboard

i have a linksys wmp54g pci adapter
and a wrt54g router.

would anyone help me please it is becoming basically impossible for me to play.

If you are using a firewall, you will need to ensure that ports 6112, 3724, and 6881 through 6999 are open in order for WoW to operate correctly. You will also need to set up port forwarding for these ports in your router. Refer to your firewall/router's documentation for instructions on opening ports and setting up port forwarding.
