Cannot get internet

I just recently got Comcast High Speed Internet and it works fine when the modem is directly connected to me laptop. I got a Linksys boradband router and connected the cable modem to it. For some reason i cannot get online when trying to surf. Is there something i am missing? Why can't i access the web when i go thru the router but i can when directly connected to the cable modem?

Unplug both the router and cable modem and shut off your pc, then turn on the router first and wait about 30 seconds, then turn on your modem and wait about 30 seconds, then turn on your pc and it should work.
