I installed a LinkSys fast ethernet card under Win 98 SE. It was recognized as new hardware, the wizard asked for the driver disk and loaded the driver OK. Then it asked for Win 98 CD and my CD-ROM had failed to be recognized on startup. I had to shut down the computer and start over. Now I get these messages on startup: Missing file VNETSUP.VXD. Can't find this device file which is referenced in your Registry or System.Ini. Then it does the same for VREDIR.VXD, and DFS.VXD. Finally, when Windows finishes loading it tells me it was unable to load MSNP32.DLL, and that Microsoft Client networking is not available.
I've removed the ethernet card and deleted the software that supports it, then reinstalled the card and run through the wizard with everything working (CD ROM). It copied some files from the Win 98 CD and I thought that would correct it, but the Missing Device Files messages continue.
Suggestions?
