Hey Guys,

So i uploaded a video to Youtube but once uploaded the quality of the video went to **** ... like 56k. I used a program called muvee to make it and it exported it as a AVI file (one of the only few options) and it was 79MB in total. If i was to reencode it and upload it again ... what codec would give me the best quality once uploaded to youtube?

Thanks
matt

Do you have a link so we can see an example of what you're talking about?

And keep in mind that YouTube's popularity came from its ease of use (both in uploading and streaming). It has never been known as a bastion of audio or video quality.

Hm, that actually is fairly pixellated, even for YouTube.

I may sound like a broken record, but the best thing to keep in mind with working with something like digital video is GIGO, Garbage In Garbage Out. In other words, you want to work with the highest possible quality you can, and if you must use some heavy compression, make sure that's the last chain in the link.

How does the video you created (the 79MB one) look? Is it that pixellated? Does it look significantly better? If your 79mb video is starting to look a little blocky, there's your problem. Try to bump up the output settings (to the highest possible quality that software will allow) and try to use other codecs (like xvid) if the program allows it.

When I upload WMV files, they look pretty darn good on YouTube.

Try that. You can take an AVI and compress it to WMV using the free MEdia Encoder from Microsoft.
