I've been on a home wireless network for the past 2-3 months without a problem. Using the Linksys USB G adapter and a Linksys WRT45G router, I used the "easy setup" option and connected with no issues. I used the linksys monitor over Windows WZC.
I just upgraded my CPU yesterday and reformatted my PC to accept the major hardware change. After loading WinXP SP1, I tried to install the USB adapter and connect to the network. While I was successful in connecting to the SSID, I get an unresolved IP address 0.0.0.0 . I know this is a typical symptom of many wireless problems, but I have tried everything in my knowledge to get an IP address. I have uninstalled the monitor and tried to use WZC with the same results. I've tried assigning the DNS with no luck. I've tried with and without WEP security. Also re-arranged the antennae even though i get 'strong' signal and have been previously connected from the same location.
The only thing I can think of is that I don't have all the patches, updates, and SP 2 for Windows (in which I believe WPA is one of the patches). Has this been my problem all along? I'm currently at work and will grab an ethernet cable to bring home -- just wanted to know if this could be the culprit for no IP address.
