Speed problem while in wireless mode

Having the WRT54G linksys router.

When I connected to the internet through cable to one of my router's rj45socket, I managed to download at a speed of 251 kBps, which is the max bandwidth of my ISP package.

But when I have tried to download the same file by the wireless mode a minute after the previous test; the donload rate was significally poorer , only 180 kBps.

What is the problem? why my wireless mode is so slower the the physical one?

Wireless is usually a bit slower but should be able to handle that bandwidth. Do you have the latest firmware for your router and drivers for your wireless card?

I bought the device before 6 months, and updated the firmware once I have installed it first.
The other drivers for the wireless card are from the installation disk I got with
the whole package.
