is it easy to configure a cisco aironet wireless point in a residental dsl modem
is there a special software i have to use
Well the Aironet series are access points, so you will need a router in the mix somewhere. Then the easiest way to go would be the web interface, but it isn't going to be as plug and play as a Linksys device.

once i connect it to a router is there a default ip is it easy to configure are they any good to use for 3 house is a 600ft radius
Haven't looked at those in a while, but form what I remember they come out of the box with nothing configured, so no IP. How easy it is to configure depends on what you want, just connecting it to get wireless internet should be easy enough with the web GUI. Setting up local WPA security might be a bit more difficult.
How large an area you can cover really depends on the exact site. Any walls, trees, or other obstructions to the signal? What type? etc.
