I am a beginner and I am trying to network an ME and XP together securely (without TCP) on a LAN connected to the Internet.

The web page http://www.easydesksoftware.com/news/news24.htm says that to safely network an ME and XP computer (without using TCP) you should bind NetBios to the ME. Then when you run the Networking Wizard on the XP computer, a network floppy disk will be created that will add a new service to the ME's HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\curr entversion\runservices key, SSDPSRV, which is the "Simple Service Discovery Protocol Service".

Does anyone know if this configuration is truly more secure than TCP for a LAN?

Also: what is the purpose of the network floppy disk? Why is it necessary to add the SSDP service to the ME, if the ME already supports NetBIOS and IPX/SPX?

Thank you.
