1) Currently i have a computer with active DSL internet, using a Actiontec Quest DSL Modem with Wireless Gateway. It is enabled to be used wirelessly, because a little led light is lit underneath the word "Wireless".
My friend brought over his laptop, and he wanted to try and go on the net wirelessly thru my dsl modem. so, he finds the connection, which was called Actiontec, and we put in the proper network key.
It then said we were connected to Actiontec at Excellent connection speed (you know, some wireless connections are poor, low, medium, high, best, excellent).
Then he tried to go online on internet explorer, and it said it failed to load the page. we tried google, msn, and many other sites and it did not load them up, it just said "Internet Explorer could not load up the page, ect..."
We tried many troubleshooters, checked connection settings, wi-fi settings, even tried different browsers, and it still did not fully "connect" us to the internet.
I began to think, because i have the dsl modem hooked to a router via ethernet, and the router has ethernet connections to 2 computers and my xbox 360, that it could not handle a wireless connection because maybe its ports were filled. im not sure if im missing something i need to configure at 192.168.0.1, the modem configuration utility.
So, how can i get this wireless connection to connect, even though it said it was connected at the excellent speed with the right WEP key?
2) I thought that if i got a second dsl modem, and put it up in my room connected to the phone jack in the wall with a filter, would i still get internet even though i have another dsl modem in the basement (where i am currently.)?
I can get internet with my current dsl modem in the basement, and i was hoping that if i connect another dsl modem in my room, and it is properly hooked up, that i can get it set up and run the internet under the same subscription as our current MSN subscription.
Anyways, thank you for your time reading these inquiries and thanks in advance.
