Can someone help me with this, please.

I am just learning about TORRENt and TORRENt files...

Anyways, I downloaded my first game and I thought I could just open it and play it...

Guess I was wrong.

It came in files like this:

add-scra.001

and so on

So I read that I needed WINRAR to make it work...I downloaded WINRAR...

and this is where I am lost.

It said to extract the files into a seperate folder. Which I did with add-scra.001...both the CUE and the BIN...then I tried to extract "add-scra.002" and it said...

"that file already exists..do you want to copy over it?"

I said yes, but I think that was wrong.

can you tell me what I am doing incorrectly? Please.

and thanks

Extracting the first one should also extract the others.

Is there a setting I should check in winrar?

No, just open the 001 file and then choose where to extract it and it should extract all of them, and either have alot of files or 1 fire the size of all the others or so.

I've downloaded a game before and the file was corrupt... and when it extracted the new folder, it just had nothing in the folder... can't remember the message. Sorry.

It's a split file archive.

Since the file extension .001 etc... is not associated w/ winrar you prolly had to tell windows to use winrar to open it.

Tip: Don't associate those split file archives (w/ numerical file extensions). When you have a split archive like that just "Open With"; or fire winrar and open the files from within the winrar gui.

I have seen some split file archives where the uploader goofed.

What is supposed to happen is, as you unpack each archive, (volume) it overwrites the previous. I'm not gonna get into how split file archives work.

Or as YoS stated, after you unpack the first volume, winrar will ask for the location of the next volume to continue processing the split flie archive... or it may do it automatically. Depends on who created the archive.

If winrar can't open one of the .001 archives... it prolly is corrupt. Try to re download that volume.

.zip files are more prone to corruption than .rar archives.

If you're using winrar it should have a default path set for extracted files.

And yes you do want to overwrite the files.

File>Select All

then use the extract button, or choose to extract it from Commands>

and then ....

Overwrite all!

Example:

I downloaded file xyz.001, xyz.002.

I have them in a folder "xyz". G:\xyz

When I extract as stated above, by default, winrar should set a path relative to the directory you're in, and create a seperate folder that the archive will unpack to.

so the path should be G:\xyz\xyz blah blah\

xyz blah blah can be a value set by whoever created the split file archive. You can of course change the path and destination folder.

I hope that helps.

Rules are different for self extracting executables!
