Good Network Switch?

Hi there guys n girls

Im new to your forums and just popped on to ask some peoples advice about what switch/s to use in a network.

I have currently got 6 D-Link switches with 1 as root, 3 in a star running off the root with 2 extra running in seriel off the star.

2 of the d-links one in the star and the root have a tendancy to fall over regularly, which isn't good news.

my question:
Does anyone know of any good/reliable 8port 1000base switches with a £50 price range?

That isn't a very large budget. What are your needs? Why is the current one failing? My initial feeling would be that you are trying to use a consumer switch in an enterprise network and just pushing it to transfer more data than is possible.

Why use so many smaller switches interconnected? Just get a single larger switch and run CAT 5 to the desk.
