Could someone please assist?

Not really sure if this is an obvious question (possibly an obviously silly one at that too..!!) but I guess it shows up my lack of expertise in this area....

Here's what I have at present:
-1 x work laptop which is also a member of my work domain (Windows XP Pro 2002), through which I can access the web through my wireless router at home.
-1 x older desktop pc onto which I've installed Windows XP Pro and believe to have configured as a workgroup called HOME. I've also configured the printer connected directly to it as "shared", in addition to certain directories. This pc is also physically connected to my wireless modem/router as I can surf the net through it, locally.

Here's what I'd like to be able to do:
-print documents on my local printer, from my work laptop, when I'm at home without having to physically connect the printer to the laptop.
-be able to backup certain files from my work laptop to my home pc, wirelessly.

As I've already spent an inordinate amount of time on this, couold someone please tell me if I'm just chasing my tail?

Thanking you in advance....

On your home PC, go to Start > setings > Printers and faxes and right click your printer and click "sharing" and then turn on sharing for the printer.

On your laptop go to the same place and choose add a printer, and select netowrk printer, choose the "connect to this printer or browse" option, then under MS windows network go to workgroup and then your computer name and the printer should be there.

To share folders right click the folder and click "sharing and security" and in the laptop to get to the under network places go to entire network, workgroup, computer name, and then the folder should be there.

Thanks YoS,

Tried that, but every time I double click on the Microsoft Windows Network - when browsing the network for a printer - I get the hour glass but no other networks are found (on my work laptop).

Could this be because I've setup the workgroup while logged in as a default user on my home PC? (as silly old me forgot the initial password I configured some time ago).

Some time later....

Cheers Yos, figured it out..!! It was a firewall issue with the work PC.
Thanks again and may I say that I'm extremely impressed with the forum. Great stuff for newbies like myself. I will definately be contributing regularly.
