Need help with securing my wireless connection

I have read where I have to disable the SSID broadcasting, but when I do this I lose the internet connection. what am I doing wrong?

Some wireless NICs don't work well when you disable SSID broadcasting, others work OK...long as you set it manually in preferred networks.

With todays wire sniffing utilities...disabling SSID isn't really a security measure anymore, it's still easily picked up. Just keeps the amateur neighbors out.

Better to use a good method...such as WPA or WPA2 encryption.
