Hi Guys,

I have a bit of an issue with a cisco router that i cant figure out.
I had my network on a linsys wrt54g until recently and everything worked great.

I changed to a cisco router and eventually got everything set up, but theres still one thing that is annoying me.

Let me give you a rundown of the network first.
Its DHCP , the PC's have zone alarm , but have the wireless and wired networks set to trusted , they have the windows firewall turned off.

The wired network is 192.168.13.0 and the wireless is set to 192.168.14.0 as i wanted them seperate.

Everything works well , internet , etc etc , and i can browse of other clients on the same network if i know their IP address.

What u cant to , or seem to figure out why it wont do it , is see the other clients when i scan the network , or go to my network places.

Why would this matter if i know the IP addresses i hear you ask ? Well i happen to have a Dlink Media Centre that goes looking for the server to play movies from my laptop and cant see it- and with it being a non standard PC , there are less options to play with on it , so it needs to be able to see the PC in my network places.

As i said , i can go to \\192.168.14.14 from 192.168.14.2 if i put in the ip address and i can transfer files with ease , but i cant see the clients , though i can ping them.

I know this has something to do with the config on the router as it worked on the linksys , so im wondering if anyone has any ideas of what i can add to the config to make this possible - my cisco router 877w does not have the normal config IOS on it and no GUI to play with , its all text based if anyone can help ?

I think you should be able to get a GUI, if that would help you at all. If it isn't there already just add the http server command to the config at the CLI.

You are using the router to route between your internal networks? any ACLs in place? My bet guess at this point would be somehting is blocking netbios as there is no internal DNS.

Thanks for the reply erik

Nope - the GUI is gone cause i changed the IOS on the router to c870-advipservicesk9-mz.124-4.T6.bin and even if i enable the ip http server.

I think you may be right about the netbios - but im not sure how to enable it on the cisco router ... anyone else have any input on this please?

It isn't enabled on the router itself. As long as you don't have an ACL or any other traffic rule stopping any traffic from passing from one interface to the other it should work. So do you have any ACLs in use or not?
