How to transfer OS from one hard drive to the other?

I’m thinking about buying a 300 GB Maxtor SATA hard drive to install in my computer to replace the existing 160 GB ATA model.

I would like to partition the 300 GB into two drives and install my existing OS from the old one onto the new. I don’t want to have to re-install the OS because everything is running great.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Some Retail boxed hard drives come with their own software from the hard drive maker..to perform such a "cloning" task.

There are also 3rd party software packages out there..such as Symantecs Ghost, and Acronis True Image....which perform those tasks, usually with more options.

Done literally hundreds and hundreds of them...yup, on the greater side of usually.
