And quite a few other sites. Though I can access about 90% of the net.

I can ping www.lego.com though.

I have the same trouble with IE, Opera and Mozilla and I have tried changing the MTU to no avail.

I even restored my PC so it is as it was new out of the box and I have the same problem.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

What version IE are you using? Is it 128 bit encrypted? What message are you getting when you try and log on those sites? Have you tried going to windowsupdate.microsoft.com to see if there are any updates you are missing?

Sounds like some malware probably infected your system...winsock is hosed.

I'd run a few scans with some good anti-spyware and antivirus programs...

SuperAntyspyware
Spybot Search and Destroy
Adaware

Some online scans at BitDefender.com, TrendMicro.com, and Kapersky.com

I'd run a TCP Winsock repair utility also..

Thanks YeOldeStoneCat. I ran superantispyware, but it only came up with a few cookies, threat level 1.

I have an idea from researching on the net that it could be a DNS problem with my ISP, would you know how I could work that out. I had the problem once before, it was there for two weeks then went away.

In troubleshooting DNS...

What TCP/IP settings does your PC have? Obtain auto? Static?

Make/modem of broadband modem?
Any extra routers?

Obtain IP and DNS automatic. Same problem connected locally or via router (Linksys).

I thought it would fix it if I wiped the hard disk and restored the PC using the system disks. I had it exactly as I had it when I bought it, and the problem was still there, thats why I think it is not my PC causing the problem. I have a friend coming round with his laptop today to try and connect on my network.

If you're rebuilt your PC (thus had a clean one), if you've tested with another PC (you said a friend is coming with laptop), if you've tried with and without router, then in my opinion...you're you looking at either a bum modem....or bad lines heading into your house.
